The yearly cycle of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is currently delayed for the second year in a row. Normally, FAFSA opens on October 1 each year but, this year it was delayed until December 1.

President of the Faculty Assembly Robin Kear announced on Dec. 4 the ad hoc committee on antisemitism will move forward under the Chancellor and Provost’s office. Members of EIADAC initially expressed frustration, but some now support a higher authority takeover.

Antisemitism ad hoc committee’s future uncertain after decision to halt its formation

On Nov. 20, Pitt’s Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Advocacy Committee (EIADAC) voted to support recommendations to establish an Ad Hoc Committee on Antisemitism. But in an email one week later, Faculty Senate members learned the executive committee is “no longer pursuing” the creation of the ad hoc committee.

Grad union announces election date after months of negotiations

On Nov. 18, 19 and 21, the Graduate Student Union will hold its unionization election. If the vote passes, the union will begin its collective bargaining agreement with the University of Pittsburgh. The union plans on fighting for stronger health benefits and pay.

‘They don’t have responses’: Pitt School of Pharmacy lays off 40% of PERU staff

Program Evaluation and Research Unit for the Pitt School of Pharmacy is making some “necessary restructuring” and reducing its staff from 76 employees to 44, cutting 40% of the program’s current staff. These decisions went into effect on Oct. 4.

Pitt staff votes to unionize, plans to begin bargaining with university in coming months

On Friday the Pennsylvania Labor Relations Board announced the majority of Pitt staff members voted in favor of joining a union. The Pitt Staff Union will now have two bargaining units — one for professional staff and another for nonprofessional staff.
