Here’s how La Niña and climate change are shaping Pittsburgh’s winter forecast

With winter approaching, Pittsburgh's weather remains uncertain due to a developing La Niña, which typically brings cooler conditions but may lead to more variability this year. Experts note that while La Niña can drive extreme weather patterns worldwide, the effects of climate change are also becoming more pronounced.

Sewage smells across Oakland causing concern for students and everyday passers

The smell of sewage has been an issue for students across campus, with many complaining of strong smells. Although brief exposure to sewage odors, such as walking by a manhole, pose “no risk to health” according to Molly Stitt-Fischer, director of environmental health and safety at Pitt, students are still unsatisfied.

The Panther Hollow Bridge in Oakland closed for maintenance on Oct 19. The closure, followed by inspection, is one of the many steps the City of Pittsburgh is taking to maintain the safety of bridges ever since the tragic event of Fern Hollow Bridge collapse in 2022.
